D Cafe
A warm welcome awaits those with dementia and their carers at the D Café. We meet at the Quaker Meeting House on Victoria Terrace (above Victoria Street) from 1pm to 3pm on the last Thursday of the month. We aim to provide a listening ear and mutual support helped along with a cup of tea! Volunteers can offer information and support and a varied programme of talks, discussions, reminiscences and outings are arranged.
On Thursday 29 March we will be indulging our memories and reminiscing with the help of a Memory Box from Edinburgh Museums and Galleries.
On 26 April a speaker from the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) will join us. There is increased awareness that sight and perception can be affected in those with dementia and this should be an interesting and helpful session.
On 31 May we will have our annual outing on the Seagull Trust Barge.
For any other information please contact the office on 0131 667 6289.
Holidays in Strathyre
Volunteers from the Branch organise holidays every year at the Sir Andrew Murray House in Strathyre, for those with dementia and their carers. They are always greatly enjoyed by everyone. This year we are taking three groups and referrals from professionals and self-referrals are invited for the following dates:
5 – 12 May
23 – 30 June
11 – 18 August
For more information, please contact Fiona Ashton at the Edinburgh Branch on 0131 667 6289 or email edinburghbranch@alzscot.org.
Office Volunteer Wanted
We are looking for a volunteer to support Edinburgh Branch to open their office in St Leonard’s Street (opposite Homebase) from 10am to 12pm, Monday to Friday for personal visitors and telephone enquiries. In addition to taking a weekly shift, individual volunteers assume responsibility in specific areas of interest. Edinburgh Branch has a long-established presence in the city offering information and support and the branch volunteers share the office with the Dementia Advisor for Edinburgh.
